Back to The Beginning

I have been saying over the past few weeks that I would share the techniques that I have been using to create a successful web site. To fully appreciate what I am going to tell you, it will be helpful if I give you some background on how I started out on this venture ...

I currently live in the UK with my wonderful wife Emily, but my only child grandson and son-in-law live in New York. This obviously creates some difficulties and with normal retirement too far into the future, I decided to look for a way to retire from full time employment and start a business that could be managed 24/7 from anywhere in the world. This would give us the flexibility to travel and see our family more frequently.

One of the the obvious solutions was to create a business utilizing the internet and based upon my knowledge and experiences, as a successful senior manager for a number of international corporations. So I set out to research the possibilities ...

In common with a lot of other people with similar ambitions, I found there was no shortage of get rich quick schemes on the web. Years of practical experience made me realize that all of these schemes were doomed to failure - only hard work and endeavor generates sustainable income. So, I carried on looking ...

I cannot tell you how I came to find SBI, but I give thanks everyday that I did. What are the chances of stumbling onto something by chance, that is exactly what you are looking for? What is SBI you may ask? The best way I can describe SBI is by saying it is a methodology for creating successful web based businesses, supported by the tools that you need to implement the strategy. The great thing about SBI is that it has the following unique combination of benefits:

Anybody can apply it as you don't have to worry about technology

Particularly suited to small businesses operating in small niches

Each step in the process is simple and logical and leads you to a successful conclusion

All SBI participants help each other to succeed through the SBI forum

SBI can only succeed if people like me succeed

It is the only concept that can prove its success with hard facts open to everyone to see

I cannot do justice to describing what SBI is and what benefits it can bring to someone wanting to establish an honest and sustainable business. Only SBI can do this and I urge you to have a look at their success story for yourself. If nothing else, it will help you to understand the way I have gone about establishing my business.

I am not trying to sell or promote SBI as a way of making money - I simply and honestly believe that it is the best way that any individual can hope to succeed on the web. What's the catch you may ask, it must cost a lot - well it does and in fact costs much more than most people are prepared to pay!

The cost is not in dollars, but in the the time, effort and perseverance needed to create any business of value. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare ...

Tomorrow, I will share with you the process which I have used to decide upon the theme of my new venture - Top Career Resumes.

Until then ...

Regards
Roger

Free Directories & Stability

Pleased to report that my number of SE links is consistantly above 80 and today its reached a high of 91. Still no Google yet. Interestingly, if I do a google search on www.top-career-resumes.com it pick up 19 references to my site, but nothing under links. Yahoo and its associates remain the best SE for me.

Registered with 3 of the major directories yesterday - Joeant, Zeal and Open Directory. Its now a case of waiting with fingers crossed. To register with Zeal you have to study their tutorial and pass an on-line test (not easy!)

Please have a look at these pages on my resumes site and let me know what you think:

Links Going Up and Down

Got the fright of my life yesterday ! No of links dropped down to only 42 - most of the dropped links were from Yahoo and associated sites. This certainly shook my confidence.

Kept checking all day, but alas no improvement but no further drops. This morning I was almost too scared to look - but to my joy my links had shot up to an all time high of 80 ! Most of the gains were Yahoo related. I guess the moral of the story is not to place too much emphasison a single days results.

Also, my daily visitors have been a bit up and down, but at least they are in double figures every day now. My target is still at least 50 by the end of Feb.

I would welcome your comments on the content of my web pages and I will be showing the URL of 5 of them each day over the next week.

Resume Objectives
Resume Outlines
Career Advice
Setting Career Goals
Aptitude Tests

Don't feel obliged to say nice things.

As promised, I will be starting to share the details of my my strategy so that you can follow what I am doing and try out some of the tools for yourself - start date is Monday !

I wonder what results tomorrow will bring ?

Incoming Links Growing by the Day

Hi Everyone,

More excitement today when I ran a report to list my incoming links over the past few days:

3 days ago: 8
yesterday: 46
today: 67

The strategy is definately working.

Only another 6 pages of content and I can start concentrating on getting into the directories and generating more incoming links. This will be a good time to start documenting what I have done and sharing with you, some of the techniques that have worked for me.

Best Regards

Top Career Resumes - First Visitors

Only someone who is launching a totally new site for the first time can really appreciate the significance of the day when your first visitors land on your site.

You can have the best website in the world with great information that lots of people would want to see, but it's no use if they can't find you! A tremendous amount of effort is required to generate long term sustainable flow of traffic. Nothing new here ... same as any other start up business in the bricks and mortar world.

What's diffrent, is the way you go about building the business and what I am now concentrating on. Up until now, all my efforts have been directed towards the creation of my site and the content. Without valuable content you cant even get to first base. Whatever you do, don't try and start selling from your site before creating great content.

Sounds simple and it is but the temptation is to take short cuts - bad idea !
It will not be too long now before I can with you winning strategy I am basing my site on ...

Until then

Roger

Article Posted in Ezine Articles

Posting original material to popular sites that publish articles on-line is an excellent way of establishing your presence on the web. I have submitted to 3 publishers and already one has been accepted for publication.

And guess what ... within 12 hours a number of people had read the article.

And how did I know that ... because my webstats showed that they clicked on my URL at the end of the article and visited my Top Career Resumes website. All very exciting stuff!

I must remember to tell you about webstats sometime soon.

Recognised by Blog Directories

I have noticed that the number of Blog Directories that have links to my site are growing by the day. I simply do a Yahoo search on www.top-career-resumes.com and it shows me all the linked sites.

Submitted an article to EzineArticles yesterday which has already been accepted and published.
I am still waiting for ArticleCity to publish the same article.

I need to join a few forums and some specialised directories to improve my inward links, which currently stands at 13. Looking forward to seeing the benefits of applying my growth strategy.

Searching for Content

My top priority now is to get the number of web pages on my site http://www.top-career-resumes.com over the 20 mark. Until I reach this level I am severely restricted on what I can do to build more traffic.

For example:

Submission to various directories, who also dont accept you if you have any advertising. On the otherhand, adding Google adsense apparently greatly influences your search engine rankings. It's a kind of catch 22 situation really - whats the use of advertising without traffic.

Anyhow, I have my plan (will reveal all when fully implemented) and will not be deviated until I achieve my objectives.

Must go now... need to create some more content.

Roger

It's early days yet and as you can see I have made some progress towards getting my site up and running. There are many useful tips & tricks that I have discovered through trial & error and lots of hard work. I want to share these with you, but I need to prove that they work over a longer period of time.

Fantastic Results as a Result of Blogging

What a hectic few days since I created this blog. I have had great difficulty "keeping all the balls in the air" at the same time, but what a learning curve. Its been worth it though ... success in getting all the major search engines to index my site http://www.top-career-resumes.com

Hopefully things will calm down a bit in a few days and I can then give a step by step account of what I have learned and the successes I have achieved. What has helped me most is reading the blogs of other people doing the same things as myself. i.e trying to set up a web site that creates traffic through excellent content. I would like to share this with you as well.

Roger
